Top 8 Destinations of Italy

One of the World’s top countries in terms of tourism, Italy has something to offer in every corner. The culture revolves around food while dazzling sea side towns display jaw dropping scenery. As Italy is full of incredible locations, it can be difficult to pin point an exact spot for your next adventure. Here are my top 7 destinations of Italy.

8. Naples

Nearby Pompeii

It may not be the most attractive and romantic city in Italy, but there sure is a lot to do. What most people don’t see about Naples is that its true beauty lies within the culture. Yes, the city is a bit dirty and the locals are not always the most pleasant, but it is an outstanding destination one cannot miss. Not only does the city serve as a popular cruise port and gateway to the incredible Italian coastline, Naples has much more to give.

7. Verona

However Venice may be a top destination for a bucket list, nearby Verona has a lot of the same kind of charm, possibly more. Despite being only a 90 minute train ride away, most people don’t even think to see Verona when visiting Italy. Here are six reasons you should skip Venice, and visit Verona instead.

6. Rome

One of the cultural capitals of the world, Rome never disappoints. When it comes to Europe, there are a few destinations that can be seen as gateway cities where layovers are very common. Rome is one of the most popular as it attracts millions of visitors each year. This is the kind of place you want to stay for an extended period of time exploring every nook and cranny, but what can you do with a short 24 hours? Here are your best activities to explore, “When in Rome”.

5. Amalfi Coast

Jaw dropping views of lush, vine yard filled hill sides, leading into the Mediterranean sea. Crystal clear waters littered with yachts and tiny paddle boats. Colorful houses scattered amongst winding roads lined with lemon trees and blossoming flowers. Scents of fresh made pastas and pizzas fill the air as the sound of wine pouring into a glass flows out from surrounding restaurants. It all sounds like heaven, and it nearly is. The Amalfi Coast is undoubtedly one of the most stunning places on the planet.

4. Capri

Imagine yourself hidden away on a tiny island off the coast of Italy. The warm, Mediterranean sun shines down on a landscape surrounded by blooming flowers and lemon trees in every direction. You spend your days navigating tight streets around colorful, hillside houses with nothing but a bottle of limoncello in hand. With every turn you take, you are rewarded with a new angle of jaw dropping views of boats scattered amongst the sparkling sea. The end of each day is met with some of the most outstanding food on Earth while enjoying an incredible sunset at a cliff side table. Sounds perfect, doesn’t it? Perfect is a word that seemingly goes hand in hand with Capri. This famous island is one of the most romantic and beautiful places you will ever visit.

3. Florence

While Florence is one of Europe’s best cities, it also plays host to some of the best food in the culinary world. This rustic and renaissance town is not only charming and beautiful, it is a great place to fill your stomach until you can’t move. As Italy is home to some of the best food on the planet, Florence is definitely the capital. The chefs and locals do not only excel in traditional Italian cooking, they have their own Tuscan style. While you will always find pastas and pizzas through out the country, there are certain dishes that are unique to each destination. As everything I have eaten in Florence is outstanding, there are a few items that set them apart from the rest.

2. Montepulciano

Tuscany. The name alone paints a masterpiece of landscape in your head. Rolling hills, lush vineyards, renaissance artwork, small and rustic towns, cobble stone streets, twisting roads, Cyprus trees standing alone, sunflower fields stretching for miles and an infinite amount of the world’s best wines. The Tuscan region is large on general scale, spanning to about 9,000 squared miles. There is a lot to see and a lot of wine to be had throughout Tuscany, but Montepulciano is one of the best places to do it all.

1. Cinque Terre

It is almost a sure thing you have heard of those 5 little towns on the Northwestern coastline of Italy in the Genoa region. Ancient fishing towns with sweeping views of rugged coastline engulfed in lush hillside vineyards and flowers. Tight streets filled with smells of fresh focaccia bread, pesto, sea food, and some of the best wine that will ever hit your taste buds. Yes, it is no lie that Cinque Terre or “Five Lands” is one of the most extraordinary and colorful places on the planet.
